Problem with Agency 1 Year, 8 Months ago
I have recently been informed from my agency that the tenant I have has not been maintaining the property. I asked the agency to perform another inspection and if this was not satisfactory they should serve notice on the tenant. The notice was carried out and the tenant left several months ago. Since this time the electricity has been cut off in my property. I have later found out that the tenant was not paying his electricity bills and had a large bill in arrears outstanding. From the time of his eviction the utility company was not told to redirect the bills to the owner of the property myself. The utility company explained to me that the lack of correspondence was the cause of the court order to enter my premises and remove the main fuse from the meter. If I had been in correspondence with the electricity company I am sure I could have prevented this from happening. The agency had not informed the utility company of the change of responsibility for the electricity, the utility company now require a fee of more than £500 to reconnect the household and the agency are taking no responsibility for their lack of management and have asked me to pick up my keys and deal with the electricity company myself although I was and still am resident in Germany at the time of this incident. Is this correct, and do I have no rights with regard to their lack of management.
